In an isolated hostel on the Outer Hebrides, two teenagers play with the line between truth and lies, between myth and very real danger.
It begins with a severed penis washed up on the beach. Or at least, that’s how Leah tells it. Leah says a lot of things, like how the most popular boy in school fancies her, or how she saw the last wild lion in Scotland.
Katie also tells stories. Stories of legend, of myth, of the dark creatures that lurk in the seas and forests of her homeland.
When the girls go on a water sports holiday to South Uist, they get into deep water. Lies and stories intertwine, and it becomes difficult to ascertain truth from fiction.
The Kelpie is a one-room, forty-five minute play for seven actors. It will be read as part of Laurel's Pint and a Pasty event in Whitley Bay on 12th September, but is still looking for a home for a full performance! If The Kelpie is right for your theatre please get in touch.
